XII International Orienteering Costa Blanca Trophy: Victories of Andreu Blanes and Ona Ràfols

The Foot-O Spanish National League 2012 has started this weekend. Held in Sant Joan d'Alacant, the XII International Orienteering Costa Blanca Trophy saw the best orienteers from Spain beat-up as an equal with a good suit of foreign athletes. In the end, Andreu Blanes and Ona Ràfols were the winners.

A very strong Blanes

The Middle Distance was fulfilled in 30:06, earning him the victory by the slim margin of 6 seconds over the french Lucas Basset (JOG), which can be seen as an interesting remake of the duel in the final of Sprint at JWOC 2011, and that crowned Basset as World Champion, beating Blanes by just 10 seconds. Blanes won again the Long Distance race, fulfilling his course in 1:02:12, with a lead of 1:11 over the second-placed, the swedish Jonas Pilblad (IFK Göteborg).

In the women Elite, the russian Anastasia Tikhonova (Parma MS) - the great revelation of the World Sprint WOC 2011 in France, thanks to her remarkable 5th place - was the winner with a time of 31:14, beating the “Spanish Army”, with Anna Serralonga Arques (Gerona GO-XTREM) Annabel Valledor Fernandéz (Badalona-O) and Ona Rafols Perramon COC (Barcelona), by edges of 1:10, 1:31 and 1:55, respectively. Ona Rafols would rectify in the decisive race, winning in 1:01:38 and leaving the second runner, Laura Lammila (Parma MS), at the distance of3:23.

Spain wins the I COMOF Cup

The I COMOF Cup had the participation of athletes from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Serbia, Turkey, Cyprus and Macedonia, distributed among the ranks M20/W20 and ME/WE. With six victories, Spain confirmed its strength, winning the first edition of the event. Andreu Blanes and Anna Serralonga Arques, with two victories each, and Marc Serralonga and Carmen Patiño Denis, with a victory, were the great figures of the Spanish National Team. The remaining two victories fit to Portugal, with Luis Silva winning the M20 on the first day, while Mariana Moreira closed their participation with a golden key, triumphing on the second day. Spain with 55 points, Portugal with 84 and Italy with 116 took the podium.

The last note goes to the COMOF Meeting, held Saturday evening, in which Portugal and Cyprus were admitted into the Confederacy, thus bringing to eight the number of members. The attention is turning now to the Portugal O 'Meeting 18-21 February, with the Spanish League returning in 25 to 27 February with the Andalucia O' Meeting, in Canos de Meca (Barbate).
