5 Days of Spain: Andreu Blanes and Esther Gil in the lead



The third day of 4th Pinares International Trophy was dedicated to the Sprint. Playa Pita's forest for the morning, the urban centre of Vinuesa for the afternoon and Eduardo Gil Marcos as the big winner overall. Today, Antonio Martínez Pérez and Andrine Benjaminsen, were the strongest, getting comfortable winnings in a challenging Long Distance. Before the last stage, the overall standings have Andreu Blanes and Esther Gil in the lead.


In the intermediate day of the 4th Pinares International Trophy, two challenging sprint races fulfilled the event's program, calling to Playa Pita and Vinuesa nearly nine hundred competitors. Manuel Jurado Alonso (Sant Joan) and Ida Bobach (OK Pan Åhrus) were the Forest Sprint winners in the Elite classes, while Andreus Blanes Reig (Colivenc) and Silvia Silvia (Individual) got the victory in the Urban Sprint race. Eduardo Gil Marcos (Tjalve) was the winner overall in the Men Elite class with the time of 34:05 and an advantage of 6 seconds on Søren Schwartz (IFK Göteborg). The Portuguese Tiago Gingão Leal (GD4C) reached the third place with more 47 seconds than Marcos. In the Women Elite class, Esther Gil I Brotons (Colivenc) spent 37:41 and was the overall winner, 2:39 ahead Asia Karpelson (Yarkyi), second placed. Natalia Gurchenkova (Universidad Alicante) got the third position with the time of 40:36.

The penultimate stage took place this morning in Covaleda, with a challenging Long Distance. Antonio Martínez Pérez (Colivenc), Andreu Blanes Reig and Søren Schwartz (IFK Göteborg) took the three first positions in the Men Elite class separated by a little over two minutes. In the Women Elite class, Andrine Benjaminsen (Lillomarka o-lag) was the only competitor to stay behind the 60 minutes barrier, getting a 7:27 minutes winning on Violeta Feliciano Sanjuan (Colivenc), second placed. Vera Mullerova (Amager Orientering) finished third, nearly ten minutes after Benjaminsen. With one stage left to the end of the 4th Pinares Orienteering Trophy, Andreu Blanes Reig and Esther Gil i Brotons are in the lead of the Men Elite class and Women Elite class, respectively.
