Ending five tough and intense days, Andreu
Blanes and Esther Gil joined “in the same bag” the victory in the
last stage and the winning of the 4th Pinares International Trophy / 5 Days of Spain 2016.
Started last Saturday and ended today
the 4th Pinares International Trophy / 5 Days of Spain 2016, Foot Orienteering event that
took place over seven stages, four of them scoring for the Spanish
Foot Orienteering League 2016 and still the Spanish Mixed Sprint Relay
Championships 2016. To the excellent maps and challenging courses in
dream terrains, joined the organization a rich and varied social
program, turning the event into a true milestone of the Peninsular
Orienteering, which could be enjoyed by more than 1,300 athletes from
19 different countries.
Starting for the final stage - a Middle Distance raced hold in Covaleda - as leaders of the overall
standings, Andreu Blanes and Esther Gil, both from Colivenc club, saw
confirmed their supremacy by winning their respective Elite classes and
taking the Trophy. Andreu Blanes got a tight win of 37 seconds on his
teammate Antonio Martínez, with Roger Casal Fernández, another
“Colivenc boy”, in the third position. In the Women Elite, Esther
Gil (Colivenc) won comfortably on Ida Bobach (OK Pan Åhrus), with an advantage of nearly five
minutes (!). Liudmila Sapronenkova got the third place, 5:43 after the
winner.
Andreu Blanes and Esther Gil finished
in the lead of the overall standings in the forest distances with,
respectively, 4:05:08 and 3:50:01. Roger Casal was the second placed
in the Men Elite, nearly eight minutes after Blanes. The second
placed in the Women Elite was Sapronenkova, with more 17 minutes than
Gil. António Martinez and Vera Mullerova got the third place.
