WTOC 2016: Finland

With six athletes in the Open class and three in the Paralympic class, Finland was the second most represented team in the World Trail Orienteering Championships 2016. Despite the three bronze medals achieved, we have to go back to the 2009 World Championships, held in Miskolc (Hungary), to see a global result lower than in Strömstad. Jari Turto and Lauri Kontkanen sorely missed in a set that had in Pinja Mäkinen its top athlete.

+ After her absence from the WTOC 2015, Pinja Mäkinen is back on track in the best way. The two bronze medals achieved - to which she added the diploma corresponding to the 6th place in the PreO competition, Open Class – mean that she was the Finn team's best representative.

- Antti Rusanen headed Strömstad with the difficult task of defending his world title in TempO. Not only he didn't succeed, getting away from the podium in this competition and also in the PreO competition, as his performance in the TrailO Relay was the weakest of the Finn team, preventing Finland of taking the silver medal. Not the best Championships to one of the best in the World.
