Like in the three previous years, Germany was present in the World Trail Orienteering Championships 2016 with the same two athletes, Anne Straube and Christian Gieseler. Having in their experience a big weapon - both already stepped on the World Championships' podium, with Anne Straube being the winner of the PreO competition, Open Class, in 2008 (Olomouc, Czech Republic) -, Geiseler & Straube headed Strömstad with great credentials. This year, however, Anne wasn't able to do better than the 20th place, matching her worst result ever (France, 2011) in ten presences at the big event. Christian was also a few holes below the usual, finishing in the 24th position, his second worst result ever since his debut in 2006.
+ The “stubbornness” in keeping alive the presence of Germany in the World Trail Orienteering Championships.
- The results achieved by both athletes in this Championships, quite short than expected. Both have enough skills to do much better, as they have already showed in the past.
20. Anne Straube 45 points / 167 seconds
24. Christian Gieseler 44 points / 66,5 seconds
